Intro Classes – Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade

Whether your child needs to catch up or get ready to move ahead, intro classes are designed to prepare our youngest students for Kindergarten,1st, and 2nd grades. Children will prepare for the coming school year by engaging in language arts, mathematics, art, and music. This fun introduction enhances their readiness for both the social and academic settings of elementary school.
Introduction to Kindergarten Mandarin Immersion
Designed to prepare students entering into PUSD’s Mandarin Immersion Program, students will have fun learning basic instructions and vocabulary in Mandarin. Activities will include language arts, mathematics, art, and music. Students must be five years old by Sept. 1, 2022.

Computer Wizards
Students will engage in subjects such as English Language Arts, Science, Arts, Movement, and Social Emotional Learning, while developing their overall computer skills.Students will practice typing, use safe internet research techniques, and learn positive habits and tips to make the most out of their time on the computer.
Garden Masters
Ever wonder what it takes to grow your own food? Students will test soil, identify bugs, learn to grow new plants, practice healthy nutritional habits, and much more.Come investigate horticultural practices in this hands-on workshop and receive your Jr. Garden Master certificate.
Latin America Arts Tour
Let's embark on an artistic adventure and journey through various Spanish-speaking cultures and countries! Students will discover and explore new cultural traditions, artistic practices, unique dances, and local languages while building their English and Spanish vocabulary and comprehension. The Hero’s Journey
Come and discover the hero’s journey as you learn about theater arts, English, and history! Class combines the elements of reading and writing during English with the theatrical, storytelling elements of the hero’s journey throughout literature along with tales of real-life adventurers, heroes, and heroines throughout history. Students will be incorporating skills they learn from all three subjects to create and perform their own play together!
Reading Comes Alive
Are you constantly on the hunt for a new fantasy world to explore? If so, this class is perfect for you! We will discuss plot points (and holes), character traits, author's purpose, the rules that guide the world, and any other topic on your mind. Whether your are a seasoned reader of fantasy or just venturing into your first "Other World" experience, you'll be eager to up your next book!
Exploration of Art
Calling all artists! Come and learn about different artists as we create our own masterpieces. We will investigate different techniques including papier mache, water color, and much more. If you love being creative, this is the class for you.
Art through the Ages
Explore the styles and techniques of artists from around the world! Students will learn about the elements of art and create their own masterpieces by using techniques artists have used throughout history.
Festival of Stories
Through the use of verbal expression, body language, improvisation, and other techniques, students learn the ancient art of oral storytelling. Students will discover their own unique talent and expressiveness as they "command the stage" and bring characters to life. English & Spanish
English Language Detectives
Use your detective skills to hunt for context clues and discover new vocabulary. English language learners will be immersed in a supportive environment with an emphasis on reading and writing. Engaging games and daily discussions will prepare students for proficiency in English. By principal recommendation only.
Action Sports
Through playing games such as Ultimate Frisbee, soccer, and capture the flag, students develop fundamental sports skills and athletic ability, all while enjoying the spirit of teamwork.
Science Discovery
Students will examine key scientific concepts, and explore physical earth and life science through exciting activities such as creating volcanoes and studying Jurassic fossils. They will create a daily project as a record of their learning.
Tennis Camp
Learning the fundamentals of tennis such as footwork, grip, and stance, are essential to becoming a competitive player, but it's only the beginning in this tennis camp! As players build on basic strokes, practice their serve and return serve, and put their skills to the test playing against each other, they will study and research the game of tennis, journal their findings, learn about healthy habits, and even participate in yoga!
All About Habitats
Do you love learning about unheard of animals? Building and designing things? If so, this is the perfect class for you! Through our journey, students strengthen critical thinking skills, ingenuity, and problem solving, all while exploring various habitats, including the Arroyo, the home to a large variety of wildlife, reptiles and bugs.
Art Studio
Come and experiment and build skills with a wide range of media, techniques and "concepts in art" from drawing and painting to sculpture, clay and mixed media. Students will learn by looking at the work of a wide range of historical and contemporary artists, focusing in particularly on underrepresented and less well-known artists as inspiration for self expression and communication.
Art Adventures
Come explore the wonderful world of art as we take inspiration from famous contemporary artists! Students will to create their own masterpieces through various mediums and learn about the elements of art by using techniques artists have used.
Geometry in Nature and Art
What do pyramids and geometry have in common? Come and investigate shapes and patterns by traveling back to the origins of numbers and form. Students will explore science, art, and philosophy and bring fun back to math!
Hot Wheels Speedometry
Hot Wheels® Speedometry™ is a fun and engaging way to learn concepts
such as energy, force, and motion. Students will learn scientific and engineering
practices such as analyzing and interpreting data. This educational curriculum, co-created with researchers at the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education, combines Hot Wheels® fun, imagination, and action, as well as toys and tracks to accelerate learning.
String Orchestra
Calling all budding musicians! In this class, students who are beginning or developing their musical chops will experience being part of an orchestra. We will focus on posture, note reading, sound and song production, interactive game play, an movement. Instruments include the violin, viola, cello, and bass. Class culminates in a grand performance. Instruments provided.
Music & Rhythms
In this class, music and rhythms are used as a foundation for greater learning. Students will not only learn to play percussion instruments and read notes, they will also expand their rhythmic skills through singing and dancing. Instruments provided.
Rock Band
Rock out in this course designed for the young musician. Learn the basics of
acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums,bass, and keyboards. Students will have
fun playing popular songs and will learn the basics of all instruments. This class is open to all skill levels. Instruments provided.
World Habitats
This course focuses on the five major habitats around the world, Aquatic, Grasslands, Desert, Rainforest, and Arctic. Each week will be focused on a habitat, and each day focusing on an animal from that habitat. Students will learn about an animal within that habitat through reading, arts and crafts, games , technology, and much more.

Amazing Authors and Artists
Do you want to be a Twenty-First Century Renaissance person? Build your knowledge and creativity by not only studying literature and art, but creating it. By immersing yourself in contemporary short stories, writing in a variety of genres including fiction, nonfiction and poetry, you will also learn about the lives of great artists and create your own artworks based on their unique styles. Students will leave with a portfolio of work.

Come explore the myths, legends, and fairy tales of Armenian culture. Students will learn about the history, art, and cultural symbols of this ancient civilization. Students will work on different projects to demonstrate their learning. These projects will encompass writing, visual, and performing arts.

Are you ready for an amazing trip around the world? During this class students will read stories from different cultures, travel to enchanted lands, learn about magical creatures, and befriend
many imaginary characters. Artistic and dramatic elements will be incorporated to embody the stories read. -
Imaginary Lands
Using papier-mache, glitter, paint, and a variety of other feathery and fun materials, students will create a fantasy landscape and the creatures that live there.

No auditions needed to join this rock band! Instruction on the guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard will be provided at various levels. Get ready to rock a mini concert on the last day of the program.

In partnership with the California Native Plant Society, Steam 360 will include science, technology, engineering, art, and math through exploration and building projects using a variety of materials. This 360 course will give students support starting with conception through design to finished product using their imaginations.

Students will learn the exciting art and technology of robotics, from mechanical design to programming, and strengthen their knowledge of algebra. Students will build important teamwork and problem-solving skills as well. This class is available for all levels of experience.

The ancient game of chess develops skills in spatial relationships, awareness of consequences, and planning ahead. Beginners learn the basics of the game that can lead to a lifetime of study. Students who already possess a working knowledge of the game can take intermediate chess, while more experienced players can continue to hone their skills in advanced chess.

Multiplication will come alive as students focus on mastering multiplication tables in a low stress, high energy, learning environment. Students will learn to multiply like a wizard and will master division concepts with the roll of a dice.

World of Adventures
No matter when or where, we can take you there! Students will travel through time and space, study important world events, explore ancient cultures, and marvel at the art they created. Students will share their discoveries in a variety of fun and engaging formats, ranging from hieroglyphics on hand made papyrus, to art that echoes the masterpieces of earlier days. This class is designed for students of all levels of academic ability. Although this class has as its primary focus social studies, language arts, and visual art, math and science will be integrated through a variety of activities connected to the topics we are exploring.

3D Tech Lab
Using a 3D printer and software including Tinkercad, Makerbot, Google Draw, and Adobe programs, aspiring engineers will create prototypes that address real world challenges. Students will use the Engineering Design Process to move from investigation, through design and creation, to evaluation, and ultimately bring their products to life with branding and advertising.

Guitar Method
Do you already play guitar and are ready to take it up a notch? Are you interested in guitar but not sure how to get started? This course is designed to meet you at your level and clear the path for you to take the next steps on your guitar journey. Students will be put into groups from beginner to advanced. Topics covered will include chords, scales, strumming patterns, finger picking, improvisation, circle of 5ths, and how to play in a group.

Books come alive through roundtable discussions as students explore characters, plot, theme, conflict, and resolution. Both avid and reluctant readers will find new literary inspiration through the sharing of ideas in this creative class.

Calling all artists! Using repurposed materials and discards, students will create two and three-dimensional artworks through different techniques. Students will create unique pieces of art by manipulating and combining objects into 3D shapes, all while inspiring their creativity and imagination.

Students will develop ideas for engaging stories and learn how to communicate through the art of documentary filmmaking. They will be guided through the process of concept development, production, editing techniques, music and sound design, and final presentation.

Ever wonder how you will manage your personal finances and excel in the professional world? In this course, students become entrepreneurs and start their own business. Students will review and apply mathematical operations with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, ratios, and percent as they work their way into becoming successful summer leaders!

Students drill, saw, and hammer as they design and build their own projects from wood. They’ll learn to safely use shop tools, understand differences between various kinds of lumber, and practice techniques for measuring, sanding, and staining. Students who've already attended Beginning Woodworking can enroll in the intermediate class.

Get moving in this class designed to build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance through fun, outdoor activities. Students will develop teamwork skills and build self-confidence as they take on new physical challenges and play games including capture the flag, circle run, relay racing, and more!

Learn the art of photographic expression and discover career paths from a professional photographer. Emphasis will be on technical fundamentals and personal image capture. Photography masters will be studied for their approach to genres such as street photography, portraiture, and black-and-white imagery. Digital cameras provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own if available.

Students will learn the process of designing and building through experimentation in architecture, product design and activist art to develop critical thinking skills and develop the confidence and ability to shape their own success and build a better world. Let’s Get Dramatic: An Introduction to Playwriting
Do you have a story to tell? Boston Court Pasadena wants to help you tell it through theatre! Over the course of three weeks you will learn the building blocks of theatrical storytelling, how to write a play, and what it is like to have a career in the performing arts. This class is taught by working theatre artists and is an interactive, hands-on experience. By the end of the program you will have completed a 10-minute play that will be performed on the Boston Court mainstage by professional actors. Please note that this class is offered to all students at Boston Court, provides lunch, from Monday thru Friday, 9am -3pm daily, and will include a performance on Saturday, July 9 with times TBD. Class size limited to 10 students.
